BIO

PhiLip Bell from Memphis,Tenn was born the youngest of 3 to the late Rev. and Mrs. Ezekiel Bell. His mother would jokingly tell him,” We planned your brothers but, we were blessed with you.” PhiL gives his older brother John credit for directing him to acting. Growing up PhiL really didn’t take to sports so he felt like he didn’t fit in.

PhiL was headed to middle school when his brother suggested he join the band , choir and drama club. He told him, ” he would be popular and have girl friends.” Well, not so much happened with the girlfriends but, PhiL took his brother’s advice and found his passion.

There at Hamilton School he performed with the concert band playing the clarinet, sang with the choral society and acted with the drama club. He played Michael in Good Times, Richard in Happy Days and landed his 1st leading role in West Side Story as Tony. PhiL then went on to do community theatre working with Memphis Children’s Theatre, Theatre Memphis & Playhouse on the Square.

He attended Watkins Overton School of Creative and Performing Arts. There He majored in in music. PhiL was a proud member of the award winning choirs under the direction of the incredible Dr. Lulah Hedgeman, the Concert Choir, Chamber Singers and his favorite the Show Choir. The choirs toured local schools and abroad to Nice France and the Bahamas performing concerts.

PhiL graduated from Tennessee State University in Nashville, Tennessee. He earned his B.S. Degree in theatre. There he performed in many plays and showcases. Some of his favorites were Home, Ain’t Misbehavin’, California Suite, and Purlie to name a few. PhiL was a member of the forensics team, Theata Alpha Phi theater fraternity, Phi Mu Alpha music fraternity and the T.E. Poag Players Guild.

After graduation PhiL headed back home to Memphis and work with the African American theatre company Blues City Cultural Center, as a resident actor. They performed theatre in schools and on the famous Beale Street in the Old Daisy Theater. He also worked with Showagon, and Beale Street Ensemble Theatre as a company member and Liberty Land Entertainment for 2 seasons as a host in Shenanigans and singer in the Handy Show.

PhiL used his one man show Anything I Want, his senior project as a fundraiser to relocate to the west coast Los Angeles. In the show PhiL portrayed a variety of characters and song to showcase his versatility. PhiL is a member of SAG/AFTRA. In Los Angeles he has performed with Theater Perception Consortium an African American theatre company, Conspiracy of Equals and many Gospel and Christian productions.

Currently PhiL is in meetings to create and produce works, he is scheduling tapings for his talk show Kickin’ it wit PhiL, back in the studio recording new album PhiLosophy and rehearsing for gigs with PhiL n’ Nem.
